When Leah was five years old her, Al (affectionately called “Daddy”) got the big idea to take her swimming at a local lake. The problem was, he passed out in his truck and left Leah swimming alone in the alligator infested lake. Thankfully, a neighbor spotted Leah as she drove past and brought her home to safety.
After the car had been delivered to our driveway, we took it to an autobody shop to get a full look over. We wanted to be sure it was good to drive and fully functional.
Furthermore, a 2017 article in Forbes quoted research that found people who have trouble saying “no” were more anxious and felt less in control of their lives. These people were less clear on their own priorities in life and had lower self-esteem.
So the question we would like to pose is, at what point do you decide to take matters into your own hands? We could have just been the “passengers” along for the ride, and waited to see when they would come put in our dock. Instead, we decided to take charge and do it ourselves and become the “driver” of our own situation.
First, when someone else tries to hold me accountable, I feel annoyed. “I can do this myself!” I think. So I have always struggled with that. But I have always accomplished more when I’ve had someone I am accountable to.
Until one day, I discovered this delicious oatmeal recipe and started wanting to have it for breakfast every day. Just one problem, I would always run out of time in the morning to still throw it together!
So as time goes on, I knew I needed to make a change. I absolutely must find time for breakfast. It was critical to my health.

“UGH!! This is so frustrating. Don’t all of these cars passing me realize how bad the conditions are? Maybe they’ll get in an accident…then they’ll learn…” I am embarrassed to admit the things I was saying in my head. But needless to say, I was not thinking kind thoughts about these cars passing me.
