3 Tips Toward Healthy Eating

From the desk of Caitlin Hanson,

What do you think of when someone suggests having a cheat meal? Do you think of ordering a burger with fries on the side? Or an indulgent and rich cheesecake for dessert? Okay…now my mouth is watering!

On the flipside, what is your immediate thought when you hear the phrase, “healthy eating?” A salad of greens? The produce section at the grocery store? Low fat, low calorie, low anything?

It’s important to find a good balance between healthy, clean eating AND a healthy mindset of eating. Here are a few tips and tricks to maintain a healthy, nutrient-rich lifestyle – to boost your physical and mental health!

  1. Have an Egg-cellent morning

Eggs have a great source of protein, and when eaten right in the morning for breakfast, you will feel more full until your next meal of the day.

Healthline.com shares, “one study in 50 people found that eating an egg-based breakfast reduced feelings of hunger and decreased the amount of calories consumed later in the day than a breakfast of cereal.”

  1. Try a New Recipe

Whether you consider yourself the chef of your kitchen or an amature, trying new recipes can be fun and easy to prepare.

Consider checking out some new recipes on Pinterest or online and see what appeals to you. It doesn’t have to be bland or boring to be healthy for you!

  1. Hydrate!

Drinking a significant amount of water every day is so vital for a healthy body and immune system. It is recommended by health professionals to drink at least eight 8- ounce glasses of water each day.

And if you are on your journey of weight loss, studies show that drinking a full glass of water before every meal helps to decrease your appetite and how much calories you consume.

Plus, if you have the late-night snacking temptation like me… it helps to drink some water first before scavenging the pantry for a sweet treat! A majority of the time, I find that I’m just thirsty.

What Does God Say About This?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

This passage reiterates the importance of taking good care of our physical bodies since we are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). And “being bought with a price” is a reminder to believers about the death of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, who took on the burden of our sinful nature and died on the cross to save us and pay the price of our sin so that we may live in relationship with Him (John 3:16).

Choosing to have a healthy lifestyle is choosing to honor and glorify God every day!
