From the desk of Grace Lange,
Sometimes we just need space.
A few weeks ago it was a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon and I was back on the farm. I decided to take a walk down the road to get some fresh air…
And as I was walking I thought about 2 things:
- How lucky I am to be able to live in a place where there are more fields than buildings and all I can smell is the good fresh air with a little cow shit mixed in there (it’s not bad actually haha)
- How as humans, we don’t give ourselves space to think, live, and breathe without distractions.
Our world is so completely saturated with stuff.
Seriously… look around the space you are sitting in. How much stuff do you have around you that you actually NEED?
Probably not much.

Our houses are filled with stuff, our cars are filled with stuff, and most importantly, our heads are filled with stuff.
Our brains are constantly working to filter out what is important to think about… and it is getting really hard for us to decipher that these days.
With the constant distractions, notifications, and the need to be anywhere else besides where we are is literally killing us.
We need space.
We need a wide open space to clear our minds.
And I don’t mean literal space, but if you have actual space to separate yourself that’s great…
But if you don’t, you need to create mental space.
You need to shut it off once in a while. You need to separate yourself from the world and everything that is consuming you.
Why do we allow ourselves to let the world consume our thoughts?

I often think about why there is so much anxiety and depression in our world today, and every time I find myself coming back to the reason of the distractions of our phones, and everything else that is stealing our minds from us.
I also think about the media, the news, and the bad things that are happening in the world that we continue to let happen.
I think we all know that it is a problem, but why won’t we stop?
Why won’t we all delete social media or stop watching the news for a day and take a break? Why are we all addicted to the thing that is making us unhappy?
What if we would just drop it all and focus on what is right in front of us…
What if we would create space for ourselves to simply think without distraction?
What does God have to say about this?
There are two bible verses that I want to share with you regarding this topic…
Romans 12:2 – Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
The world is telling us that things like social media, netflix, and any other distraction will satisfy us and make us happy, but God tells us to not conform to this world. He tells us to deny what everyone else is doing and follow his word….
This doesn’t mean that those things are completely bad, but it means to not let those things take the place of God. He calls us to spend more time with him than we spend doing things that don’t matter!
Ephesians 5:15-16 – So, then, be careful how you live. Do not be unwise but wise, making the best use of your time because the times are evil.
How do you spend your time?
